EN 16931 is the European standard for electronic invoices – the foundation of XRechnung and ZUGFeRD.
EN 16931 (by CEN, European Committee for Standardization) defines the semantic data model and business rules (BR-xx) for electronic invoices in the EU. Both XRechnung and ZUGFeRD build on it. The standard specifies which fields are mandatory, which are conditional, and how they are validated.
The built-in validator checks every generated XRechnung or ZUGFeRD file against the EN 16931 schema and the business rules – with results shown directly in the UI.
